About Wicked

Was the 'Wicked Witch of the West' really wicked orthe innocent victim of a corrupt regime?

Wicked Active Learning

Three time winner of 'Best Theatre Production for Schools' at the annual School Travel Awards, Wicked explores themes of self-esteem, discrimination, identity, fake news, and friendship, and supports programmes of study for English, Drama, Music, PSHE, and more.

Adapted for the stage from Gregory Maguire's acclaimed novel 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' (readers 16+) by writer Winnie Holzman and featuring songs by Stephen Schwartz, Wicked is an ingenious re-imagining of L. Frank Baum’s 'Wizard of Oz' story.

"The allegorical origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West, 'Wicked' provides a nuanced examination of good and evil, and an indictment of elitism, racism, fascism, scapegoating and the corrupting nature of power."

Independent

Wicked is about "nurturing self-esteem, overcoming discrimination, and finding a sense of identity" (Drama & Theatre), and tells the untold story of an initially unlikely and eventually profound friendship between two university students, 'Galinda Upland' and 'Elphaba Thropp', and how their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as 'Glinda The Good' and the 'Wicked Witch of the West'.

Did you know?

Wicked has been a finalist in the category 'Best Theatre Production for Schools' every year since the School Travel Awards began, winning three times.

In 2025, 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz', L. Frank Baum's classic children's fantasy, celebrated 125 years since it was first published.

In Baum's story (and in Wicked), the famous 'slippers' are silver. In the 1939 film adaptation they became ruby to make better use of TECHNICOLOR™.

  • Our 'book now/pay later' policy enables you to reserve tickets for an agreed period while you secure any necessary approvals for the trip. No upfront payment or deposit is required when booking directly with us. The booking is confirmed upon receipt of full payment.

  • Depending on ticket availability at your chosen performance, reservations can usually be held for up to 4 weeks, after which full payment is required. If payment is not received, the reservation will be released. It may be possible to hold tickets on reservation for longer periods of time, on a case-by-case basis. If you need some more time, quoting your original order number.

If booking for a performance within the next 6 weeks, a shorter reservation window or immediate payment may be required to confirm your booking.

  • Tickets, workshops, and Q&As are generally on-sale to schools and youth groups at least a year in advance. To secure the best available seat locations for Wicked in your price category, advance booking is imperative. If you're planning an Enrichment or Anti-Bullying Week trip or looking to secure tickets for any applicable performance at the end of a Summer Term/Academic Year, we recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

All members of the group must be present when tickets are scanned to gain entry to the theatre.
